So I started this challenge with a goal of simplifying my life a bit, and in some ways, I have. It’s sooooooo easy to get up in the morning and not have to think about what I’m going to wear. . . I just grab my dress. Of course, putting on leggings and a t-shirt is pretty simple too, and we all know that that’s been my “go to” for quite some time. But as much as I love my leggings and tees, I have to say, I feel a little more “dressed” in my dress. It’s still comfy and casual, but for the most part, I feel a little more put together. As you can see from the photos, I don’t do a whole lot to jazz it up. I add something on my legs for warmth if needed, and maybe something colorful and warm on top. Many of the people doing this challenge have been extraordinarily clever in the way they create a new look every day, mostly by shopping in their closets. I have also found old treasures in my closet that I had forgotten about, but the great thing is that I have found many more items in my closet that I don’t love and don’t want to keep around. Those will be sold to benefit Pet Tribe, my favorite non-profit animal rescue.
The hardest part of the challenge for me so far has been taking that daily selfie to document my experience. I have always hated taking pictures of myself. When I sort through my camera roll, I frequently go through and delete photos of myself because I don’t like the way I look in them. I have effectively edited myself out of years of experiences and activities. No more! I am determined to give myself the grace of being content with the way I look, even if I’m not “dressed,” even if I’m not wearing makeup, even if I think I look too fat or too old or . . . you get the idea.
So each day, whether I feel like it or not, I get dressed in my dress. Some days, I accessorize. Some days, I wear makeup. Somedays it’s just me and my dress and a naked face.
What’s Next? Although this post is about the first two weeks, I’m actually on Day 32 today, which means I’m over one month in and almost a third of the way finished with the challenge. I’ll update you on weeks three and four soon, but I can honestly say that I’m happy with where I am and I plan to continue all the way through to Day 100.
